Joyride mythos

You run the road, but do you sense
the pressed ground underneath the road,
the muscled hours that spread it out,
the large machinery employed,
the unions, contracts, regulations,
the slow budget approval process
without which you’d have no road,
just a washed-out muddy track
steadily crumbling, falling back
to land unfit for wheels?
